The Reluctant Princess

"Ugh... yes stop shouting," She said.

He sighed and sat back in his seat. "Don't try to move. You had a slight concussion, broken arm and bruising." he said to her.

"What do you mean?" She brought a hand to her head. "Why does my head hurt so much?"

"You fell off of Star. She came back without you. You were found in the snow with a bloody head and a broken arm and cold body." he sighed.

"I can't remember a thing though. Last thing I remember is..." She didn't have to say it. He knew she was referring to him and the maid. "And everything else is blank."

HE decided to avoid THAT discussion until she wanted to talk. "Well... I'll get the doctor. I need to get to sleep." he stood and headed out of the room.

The doctor came and checked up on her. "Your arm will be fine in a couple months. But you do need to eat and then rest some more."

The head maid for Merliah came in with some some broth and sat next to her. They doctor left, "We were so worried my lady."

She smiled a bit, "Thank you for your concern."

"His majesty was the most worried out of the lot of us. He refused to leave your side. He has barely ate or slept for the last three days, just so he could make sure you woke up." she sighed, stirring the broth.

She looked away, "How noble of him." She said sarcastically.

"I'm serious my Lady, I have never seen him so distraught, He normally is a very happy man." she said giving her some of the soup.

She sighed, "I don't want to talk about him anymore."

"As you wish." she continued to feed her.

A fews days past since Merliah woke up. Oberon had told Finnegan that he would be doing his work in his chamber for a while.

Finnegan sighed as he brought his papers to him, he went by the medical wing and saw Merliah out of bed. "My lady, what are you doing out of bed?"

"I wanted to stretch my legs." She said.

"Well, I'm glad you're recovering." he was trying to balance the papers, "Blast it all."

She laughed a bit, "Would you like some help?"

"Thank you but no. I have to get these to his Majesty. He has been doing all his duties from his room lately." said Finnegan, "I do wish he would stop moping."

"Moping. Hmph he's probably just sleeping with what ever maid he can get his hands on."

Finnegan froze, "Maid? .....Oh dear....was it a honey-blonde with a curvy body and brown eyes?" he questioned, with a not impressed tone.

"Yes," She said. "Did you know about this?"

"Her name is Kiina. She has been part of his private staff for a few years. She was at his request whenever he wanted but I told him before we left for Mandela he should put her in the regular staff so he would not do this anymore. I should have known he wouldn't not have listened." he grumbled.

She sighed, "Well he sure should've thought about that before I found out."

'ANd he was making good progress with her.' he said to himself, "My lady, it has been days since you found out, perhaps you should talk to him."

She turned, "No. I will not speak to someone who fools around like him."

He sighed, "As you wish." he went to leave. "But before I leave, please think about it. It will not make the matter go away if you both remain silent." with that Finnegan left.

She sighed, "I know."

Meanwhile....

Oberon had the lights turned off in his chamber, the only source was from the fire to warm the room.

He stood in front of the garden terrace doors, watching the snow fall. His mastiff Brutus was his only company while he was in his room for the last few days.

He hardly spoke to anyone, even Finnegan when he brought papers along.

Kiina knocked on his door, "Sire? May I come in?"

He didn't respond. If they King didn't respond, no one enters.

Finnegan saw her outside his door, "Kiina!"

She jumped, "Hello Sir Finnegan."

He frowned, "You have cause too much of a stir. Do not come to his majesty's chamber without being summoned. Things were going so well with the Princess and you and his highness had to go and do the STUPID thing and keep on going with your ridiculous game!" he scolded her.

She frowned and sighed, "I know and I'm sorry. I was just going to give him my resignation letter."

This surprised Finnegan, "Resignation? I mentioned to him to place you in the regular stuff. You do work hard and we like that Kiina, but to resign?"

She sighed, "I have caused enough problems. I think I should go. You can tell the princess he fired me or something. That should make things a little better between them."

Finnegan sighed and took her paper, "I will grant your request."

He watched as Kiina left. "Good-bye." he said to her.

"Tell His Magisty that I will miss him, and that I'm sorry for the trouble I have caused."

He nodded.

Finnegan entered the King's chamber, "Sire, I have a part of resignation from Kiina." Oberon glanced at his advisor, "From Kiina?"

"She had me to tell you, that she will miss you and she is sorry for all that has happened." he n=bowed before leaving, putting all the papers on his desk.

Finnegan headed to the recovery room to see Merliah, "My lady?"

The doctor was doing a check up on her arm. Leah looked up, "Hello Finnegan."

He smiled, "Hello, I have news for you but I'll wait until the doctor is finished." he nodded.

She nodded, "Okay."
After a few more minutes the doctor was done, "It seems the bone is healing nicely. No infection or anything. It still will be two months before it's completely healed."

"I'm glad to hear that my lady. But now to why I am here." he said, "I have gotten word that Oberon has dismissed Maid Kiina and she no longer works here as a maid. That is all." he bowed.

She blinked, "He did what?"

"He fired her in other words. It would seem he is capable of the right choices." he smiled as he left.

"Wait!" She bit her lip, "Do you think he would see me?"

Finnegan looked at her, "I thought you did not want to talk to him."

She looked down, "I guess I cloud make an exception after he fired her."

He smiled, "He's in his chamber. Don't mind if he doesn't respond, he wasn't been very talkative lately."

She nodded and went to his room, "Oberon? Are you there?"
